The Story

Hi! My name is Ty Hudson. I am originally a Nebraska native. I grew up a huge Husker fan and was mostly engaged with sports for the majority of my childhood. I discovered theatre on a whim after riding the pine most of my freshman year during basketball and crying b-ball sized tears into my pillow at night. I had the distinct privilege of singing “Proud to be an American” to a patriotic bunch eating hot dogs during a summer arts program and…I was hooked!

I went to the University of South Dakota for my BFA in Acting, received an MA in Secondary Education with a Theatre Arts and Social Studies Licensure shortly after, and because I am a glutton for punishment, gutted out three years in the MFA Acting program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I worked in the Special Education departments at South Sioux City High School (NE) and Northfield Middle School (MN). I also taught 7th grade Social Studies for a time and ran the Northfield Middle School theatre program for five years.

In 2011 I moved to the Twin Cities and in six years acted in over twenty productions at over a dozen theatres. I love being eclectic and you can see that on my resume as it is filled with musical theatre, classical work, and contemporary/new plays. I have also become more involved in the stage combat and stage intimacy worlds this past year with certifications in both. Other interests include theatrical publication as I have works in Theatre History and Casting Practices that have been published.

I laid eyes on this saucy Sally my junior year of high school as she belted out “Wheee!” as Evelyn Nesbit in Ragtime. It was love at first sight…for me. The first time she laid eyes on me I popped out of a sweaty box after hiding for a half hour dressed as the Cat in the Hat for Seussical the Musical. It was a rough start but it proves that one can overcome anything.
